From the introduction of high-def- nition television to the transition from analog to digital (for both audio and video content), today's entertainment landscape is drastically diferent from that of 20 or 30 years ago. With the introduc- tion of 4K Ultra HD and the evolution of high-res- olution audio – which has restored some of the fdelity lost as we shifed to compressed digital audio – we are now entering yet another phase of entertainment, one that promises to be more immersive than ever. In the 2015 edition of CEA's Five Technology Trends to Watch publication, Brian Markwalter, senior vice president of research and standards at CEA, took an in-depth look at this trend in his section "Entertainment and Immersive Content." "Within the next three years technology advance- ments will come together that result in entertain- ment experiences so vivid and immersive, movies and games will completely engulf our senses," Markwalter predicts. From curved Ultra HDTVs and surround sound systems that fully incorpo- rate high-resolution audio to new virtual reality equipped with head-tracking, the products that will create this immersive entertainment experi- ence will be everywhere at the 2015 International CES.
