The company is also demonstrating an 8K display. In other announcements, the company: • unveiled its second-generation g Flex curved-screen smartphone, reducing screen size to 5.5 inches from 6 inches but bolstering processor power; • added more streaming services, including more 4K streaming services, to its smart Tvs; • upgraded its smart Tv WebOs UI to offer two-times faster operation, reduce start-up time by 60 percent to just a few seconds, and add convenience features; • launched the industry's frst miniwasher, which takes the shape of a foor pedestal on which any lg front-load washer can be placed to wash two batches of clothes at once; and unveiled another industry frst, a double door-in-door refrigerator with separate full-size doors on each front French door; • said it was selected as the appliance sponsor for the ninth season of Rachael Ray's cooking show; and • said it is investing $600 million to quadruple the production capacity of OleD displays. In Tvs, the company plans to offer 10 4K UHD OleD models in seven series and 25 4K leD lCD models, also in seven series. Many of the company's 11 OleD models in 2015 (including one carryover FullHD OleD) will feature curved screens, and a new fagship 77-inch model will feature a "fexible" 4K OleD screen that bends for fat- or curved-screen viewing. It was shown last year as a prototype and is slated for a 2015 introduction. In launching quantum dot technology, lg unveiled the UF9400 series of 4K leD lCD Tvs, consisting of a 65-inch model. The technology is said to expand the color palette by 30 percent over conventional leD lCD Tvs. another new wide-color-gamut technology, called Color Prime, will appear in the UF9500 4K leD lCD Tv series, which consists of the 79-, 65- and 55-inch screen sizes. The lg-developed technology expands color gamut by about 25 percent over the current ReC-709 standard and approaches the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) standard, the company said. The 25 4K leD lCD Tvs slated for 2015 include the 105-inch UD9, introduced last fall, and a 98-inch model and 84- inch model carried over from last year. separately, all Tvs incorporating the new WebOs 2.0 smart-Tv platform will add multiple new streaming services, including new 4K streaming services. Noted company founder and "head monster" Noel lee, who attended yesterday's International Ces press conference via video rather than on his trademark segway because of a recent surgery: "Today, in this Internet of Things, you can't do it alone, and that's our mantra." as is now Ces tradition for Monster, the company trotted out a cadre of celebrities, including Nick Cannon, shaquille O'Neal and U.s. Paralympic champion Blake leeper. although its current motto is "More Than Just a Headphones Company," new headphones were certainly given plenty of attention. This included its frst wireless in-ear isport models: the isport Bluetooth Wireless and isport Bluetooth Wireless super slim ($129 and $149 suggested retails, respectively). It is adding Bluetooth headphones with active noise canceling to its DNa line (the DNa Pro 2.0 active Bluetooth with aNC, $399) and debuting the DNa 2.0 Pro fagship headphones, both accompanied by a free interactive app with customized music tuning profles. It is also expanding its adidas partnership with the Performance line of headphones, this one geared toward athletes. Five in-ear models make up the line, with prices ranging from $49.95 to $149. By GreG tarr l as veg as Dish unveiled its first 4K ultra HD programming plans and an over-the-top (ott) streaming service targeting so-called cord cutters. the ott streaming service, known as Sling tV, was optimized for mostly younger audiences that for a variety of reasons have rejected traditional sub- scription-based multichannel tV service. roger lynch, Sling tV Ceo, said the Sling tV audience is primarily comprised of millennials who want less expensive alternatives to conven- tional subscription platforms. it will be available later in the frst quarter. the service will offer many of the most popular live "cable" channels, with VoD options, and mo- bile viewing capability while eschewing the need for credit checks or service contracts. live channels include top Disney/abC/eSPn channels, in addition to tnt, Food network, HgtV, tbS and Cartoon network. in addition, the service, which charges $20 a month, will mix in "some of the best internet-delivered content."
