160 | 2015 INTERNATIONAL CES DAILY | JANUARY 6-9, 2015 NEW & NOTEWORTHY NEW PRODUCTS DEBUTING AT 2015 INTERNATIONAL CES CESWEB.ORG #CES2015 LG Gets 'Chill' With Door-In-Door Fridge BOOTH 8204 LG Electronics USA is introducing a new variation on its pioneering door-in-door refrigerator design. Its innovative Double Door-in-Door four-door French door refrigerator (model LPXS34886C) is comprised of two independent door-in-door compartments to provide better content organization and easy access while max- imizing conservation of cold air. The right door-in-door panel is accessible from the outside with a simple push of a button and is also accessi- ble from the inside, making it easy to load with often-used items like snacks, drinks and lunches. The left door- in-door provides additional easy-access storage space that's accessible via a trigger on the bottom of the door. The fridge itself features contour-processed tempered glass over its black-patterned curved glass f nishing, leaving the outside f ngerprint- and smudge-resistant, and boasts the slimmest and most effective insulation the company has ever produced, to provide nearly 34 cu. ft. of capacity, LG said. The unit also employs a low-friction linear compressor and long-lasting LED lighting to reduce energy con- sumption, plus Wi-Fi capability that allows users to control temperature, ice production and cooling modes re- motely by instant messaging LG's HomeChat virtual assistant. Pricing and ship dates are to be announced this week. Gentex Brings Rear Vision To The Forefront BOOTH 3725 Gentex's Full Display Mirror is billed as an intelligent rear- vision system that uses a custom, externally mounted camera and mirror-integrated video display to optimize a vehicle's rearward view. The system consists of a hybrid Full Display Mirror and a custom, Gentex-designed camera engineered specif cally for automotive vision. The mirror offers bi-modal functionality. In mirror mode, the product functions as a standard rearview mirror. During nighttime driving, digital light sensors talk to one another via a microprocessor to automatically darken the mirror when glare is detected. But with the f ip of a lever, the mirror enters display mode, and an LCD display appears through the mirror's ref ective surface, providing a wide, unobstructed rearward view, said the company. The two modes are essential, said Gentex, because should the camera or display become non-operational, the product fails safe and operates as a standard mirror. The driver can also switch between modes to accommodate usage preferences for various weather conditions and driving tasks. Automotive video for rear vision requires a camera with high dynamic range, which is the ratio between the brightest and darkest areas of a given scene, said the company. The challenge is to display the details in the darkest and brightest areas of a given scene simultaneously, without causing the display to "washout" due to bright light sources, it noted, adding that the camera meets this challenge with a proprietary CMOS imager that delivers "unprecedented dynamic range." Pricing will be available at the show.
